The Essential Basics of Backgammon Strategies – Part 1

The goal of a Backgammon match is to move your pieces around the Backgammon board and pull them from the board quicker than your opposing player who works harder to achieve the same buthowever they move in the opposite direction. Succeeding in a round of Backgammon needsrequires both tactics and good luck. How far you can shift your checkers is left to the numbers from rolling the dice, and just how you shift your chips are determined by your overall playing tactics. Enthusiasts use different plans in the differing stages of a match dependent on your positions and opponent’s.

The Running Game Plan

The goal of the Running Game tactic is to lure all your chips into your home board and bear them off as quick as you could. This tactic focuses on the speed of shifting your pieces with little or no efforts to hit or block your competitor’s checkers. The ideal scenario to employ this tactic is when you think you might be able to move your own pieces quicker than your opposition does: when 1) you have less pieces on the board; 2) all your checkers have past your competitor’s chips; or 3) the opponent doesn’t use the hitting or blocking strategy.

The Blocking Game Strategy

The primary aim of the blocking technique, by the name, is to block your competitor’s checkers, temporarily, while not worrying about shifting your checkers quickly. Once you’ve established the blockage for the competitor’s movement with a couple of pieces, you can shift your other pieces rapidly off the board. You should also have a clear plan when to withdraw and move the checkers that you used for the blockade. The game becomes interesting when the opposition utilizes the same blocking strategy.
