Backgammon its History – Now and Then

[ English ]

Backgammon is the oldest game in recorded history. Also known as the "wee battle," backgammon appeared in ancient middle east over 5000 years ago. However, Egyptians called backgammon "Senat," which is a similar form of the current game enjoyed right now. Hundreds of years ago, only people of influence, the ruling figures of royalty like Egyptian pharaohs, were allowed to play. The game began to grow around the planet in time. Various Backgammon types were created in many nations and civilizations, but the general regulations of those versions resemble that of the antiquated form . For instance, The Greeks grabbed a hold of the game and called it by the name "bac gamen." From there, the English borrowed backgammon in the 1600’s and have continued to play it ever since. Backgammon and competing old games were never welcomed by a great many clergy. The churches felt that the game was the work of the Devil. This led clergy to boycott and burn the game. The banishment and burning did not stop people betting on games and having fun.

Computers afford an additional platform for Backgammon. When different electronic games are available all over the place, computer researchers in Artificial Intelligence (AI) use Backgammon for researching, creating and measuring AI theories and formulas as a consequence of the simplicity of game principles and difficulties of plans.
