The Essential Basics of Backgammon Tactics – Part Two

As we have dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a casino game of skill and pure luck. The goal is to move your pieces carefully around the board to your inner board while at the same time your opposing player moves their pieces toward their inner board in the opposite direction. With opposing player checkers moving in opposing directions there is bound to be conflict and the requirement for particular strategies at specific times. Here are the 2 final Backgammon tactics to finish off your game.

The Priming Game Strategy

If the goal of the blocking tactic is to hamper the opponents ability to move his chips, the Priming Game strategy is to completely block any activity of the opponent by assembling a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s checkers will either get bumped, or result a battered position if she ever attempts to escape the wall. The trap of the prime can be built anyplace between point two and point eleven in your game board. After you have successfully built the prime to stop the movement of the opponent, your opponent does not even get to roll the dice, and you shift your chips and roll the dice again. You will win the game for sure.

The Back Game Technique

The aims of the Back Game strategy and the Blocking Game plan are similar – to hurt your competitor’s positions with hope to better your chances of winning, but the Back Game strategy uses alternate tactics to do that. The Back Game plan is often utilized when you’re far behind your competitor. To play Backgammon with this technique, you need to control two or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single piece) late in the game. This strategy is more complex than others to play in Backgammon because it needs careful movement of your pieces and how the checkers are moved is partly the result of the dice roll.
