The Basics of Backgammon Game Plans – Part 1

The aim of a Backgammon match is to shift your pieces around the Backgammon board and get those pieces off the board faster than your opposing player who works harder to attempt the same buthowever they move in the opposite direction. Succeeding in a game in Backgammon requires both strategy and good luck. Just how far you will be able to shift your chips is up to the numbers from rolling a pair of dice, and the way you shift your pieces are determined by your overall gambling plans. Enthusiasts use different strategies in the different stages of a match dependent on your positions and opponent’s.

The Running Game Technique

The goal of the Running Game plan is to lure all your chips into your inside board and pull them off as quickly as you can. This tactic focuses on the speed of moving your checkers with absolutely no efforts to hit or stop your competitor’s chips. The best time to employ this technique is when you believe you might be able to shift your own checkers faster than the opponent does: when 1) you have less chips on the board; 2) all your checkers have moved beyond your competitor’s checkers; or 3) your opponent does not use the hitting or blocking tactic.

The Blocking Game Technique

The main goal of the blocking technique, by the title, is to block your opponent’s chips, temporarily, not fretting about moving your chips rapidly. Once you have created the barrier for the competitor’s movement with a few chips, you can shift your other chips quickly off the board. You really should also have a good strategy when to back off and move the pieces that you used for blocking. The game becomes interesting when the opposition utilizes the same blocking technique.
