The Basics of Backgammon Tactics – Part 2
Posted in Backgammon on 06/25/2026 11:25 pm by MadisynAs we dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a game of ability and pure luck. The goal is to move your pieces safely around the board to your inside board and at the same time your opposition shifts their chips toward their inner board in the opposite direction. With opposing player chips heading in opposite directions there is going to be conflict and the requirement for particular tactics at particular instances. Here are the last 2 Backgammon techniques to finish off your game.
The Priming Game Plan
If the purpose of the blocking plan is to hamper the opponents ability to shift her checkers, the Priming Game strategy is to completely barricade any activity of the opposing player by building a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s checkers will either get bumped, or result a damaged position if he/she ever attempts to leave the wall. The trap of the prime can be setup anywhere between point two and point 11 in your half of the board. After you have successfully built the prime to prevent the activity of the opponent, your opponent does not even get a chance to roll the dice, that means you shift your pieces and roll the dice again. You will win the game for sure.
The Back Game Technique
The aims of the Back Game strategy and the Blocking Game tactic are similar – to harm your opponent’s positions with hope to boost your odds of winning, but the Back Game tactic utilizes different techniques to achieve that. The Back Game tactic is often utilized when you’re far behind your competitor. To play Backgammon with this strategy, you need to control 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot late in the game. This tactic is more challenging than others to employ in Backgammon because it needs careful movement of your pieces and how the chips are relocated is partly the result of the dice toss.
